How To

Editing aids, find, spell check, formatting

Find & replace, spell check with correction suggestions, Format Document for config files, and content zoom.

Beyond plain typing, WebF1 Pad ships a set of editing aids that work the same in notes and (mostly) in the chat composer.

Find and replace

  • Ctrl+F opens find, Ctrl+H (or Alt+F) opens replace.
  • F3 / Shift+F3 and Ctrl+G jump between matches, Esc closes the panel.
  • The panel works in the note editor and in the chat composer.

Content zoom

Ctrl + + zooms the content font in, Ctrl + - out, Ctrl + 0 resets. The toolbar and dialogs keep their size, only the note/chat content scales. The zoom level is remembered across launches.

Wrap long lines

Alt+Z toggles soft-wrapping of long lines in the editor.

Spell check

Spell check is backed by the system hunspell dictionaries (US English ships with the app):

  1. Open Settings → Editor and tick Spell check.
  2. Misspelled words get the familiar red underline. Right-click one for correction suggestions.
  3. The context menu also offers Add to dictionary, a personal dictionary keeps accepted words for later sessions.

Format Document for config files

Minified or one-line config files tidy up with Format Document (Shift+Alt+F, the Edit menu, or right-click the editor). It works on JSON/JSONC, YAML and XML/XSD/SVG tabs:

  • JSON keeps comments and key order.
  • YAML is re-dumped (comments may be dropped).
  • XML is re-indented; text content is left verbatim.

A formatting failure (malformed input) shows an error toast and leaves the file untouched, Format Document never destroys content it cannot parse.

Self-contained images

Paste an image from the clipboard (Ctrl+V) or pick one with the toolbar’s image button: the image is embedded directly in the note text as a data URI , no external store, no broken links when the note moves. Notes stay self-contained, which also keeps exported PDFs and cloud backups complete. See Export PDFs and print for where embedded images end up.

The status bar

The strip along the bottom of the window shows the state of the active tab and lets you set two things:

  • Save state - a dot plus Ready / Saving… / Saved, and the file path when the note has one.
  • Word and character counts - live for the tab you are editing.
  • Language chip - click it to tell the editor how to highlight a file it guessed wrong. Pick a language, or CSV, which also opens the delimiter quick-pick (see Work with CSV files). For formattable languages the chip also offers Format Document.
