Notes are ordinary files on your device unless you choose a connected feature. This page explains what those optional features send and where they send it.

Your notes

Notes are stored as files on your device, and basic writing, formatting and preview work offline. WebF1 does not receive or analyze the contents of your notes.

Cloud backup

Cloud backup is optional and off by default. When you enable it, you connect the app to your own S3-compatible storage account (MinIO, AWS S3, Wasabi, Cloudflare R2 or another provider) . S3 backups are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before upload, and only you hold the passphrase - the storage provider receives ciphertext it cannot read.

AI chat

AI chat is optional and off by default. When you enable it, you configure the AI provider yourself - a hosted API such as Anthropic or OpenRouter, or a local model via Ollama. Your prompts, selected chat history and attachments go to that provider, under your account, not to WebF1.

Web search and page fetching

If you enable web search for AI chat, search queries go to the backend you picked: DuckDuckGo, the SearXNG instance you configured, or the Tavily/Exa account you linked (a keyed backend ties the queries to your account). A tool-capable model may also request a page, which sends an ordinary request to that website. WebF1 does not proxy these requests.

Links and remote media in previews

When a note contains a standalone web link, WebF1 Pad may request that page to build a link card. Remote images and YouTube embeds are requested from their hosts when displayed. Those sites receive the same basic connection information they would receive from a normal visit.

AI assistant and tool connections

The built-in MCP connection, which lets compatible AI assistants work with open notes, is disabled by default and, when enabled, listens only on 127.0.0.1 - it is unreachable from the network. You control which content assistants may read. If you separately configure a remote MCP service for chat, tool requests and their arguments go directly to that service.

No account required

WebF1 Pad does not require a WebF1 account, and this website does not serve ads or third-party analytics.
